Project Summaries

Sustainable Worthington projects, including those highlighted below, are entirely driven by the time, skills and passion of our members. Sub-groups are formed to help projects move forward and members to connect.

PreCycle Day

PreCycle Day is a Worthington-wide, curbside, free exchange of re-usable items, first held in April 2010. PreCycle Day helps put re-usable items in use instead of in the landfill or recycle stream; encourages connection between neighbors; celebrates Earth Day and is a lot of fun! Worthington Community Garden at the Worthington Community Center

The Worthington Community Garden opened for planting in April of 2010. Our Community Garden encourages the spirit of community that comes from nurturing shared land and growing our own food. Click here for additional information.

Urban Forest - Restoration of the Moses Wright Nature Area

The native understory of the Moses Wright Nature Area in East Granville Park, 245 E. Granville Road, has become overrun with honeysuckle and other invasive plants. We are working to restore this special native woodland in partnership with the Worthington Parks and Recreation Department. The Moses Wright Nature Area is set back from 161, behind the East Granville Park and playground.Click here for additional information.

Project Incubator – WOOF (Worthington Organized Off-leash Friends)

Sustainable Worthington is proud to serve as a facilitator to bring together Worthington citizens in the creation of projects such as WOOF to create a dog park which helps build community. Learn more about WOOF at www.worthingtondogpark.com.

Demonstration Rain Garden

Sustainable Worthington led a coalition of local groups to install a demonstration rain garden in September 2008 at the City of Worthington Public Service Complex (380 Highland Ave) to educate the public on the beauty and effectiveness of rain gardens in storm water management. Olde Worthington Winter Farmers Market

The Local Foods subgroup of Sustainable Worthington invested over 1000 hours of volunteer time to help launch the winter market beginning in November, 2007, and then to establish a Friends group to sustain the winter market. Both summer and winter farmers market are projects of the Olde Worthington Business Association. Click here for additional information.
